Made possible by a generous bequest from the Estate of Rita Markus, Markus Gardens, opened in March 2014 on 171st Street in Jamaica, Queens. This supportive housing project of ACMH Inc. in New York, NY provides permanent housing in 60 studio apartments for adults and shared apartments for 16 young adults, ages 18-25, with the aim of promoting positive youth development and transition to independence. A special recognition was made to long-time friend and generous donor Betty Wold Johnson. The Betty Wold Johnson Solarium at Markus Gardens was named in her honor.
Independence House is an OMH-licensed Single Room Community Residence (CR-SRO) for formerly homeless adults. The program is located in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. A four-story building provides private rooms for 24 residents. This community residence prepares residents for a move to a more independent setting. The building has 24 hour staffing with a full range of on-site services assisting clients to develop independent living skills.
74 Avenue A is a 55 bed single room community residence which opened in Queens Village in January 2012. 74 Avenue A provides residents with the support needed to live successfully in the community and the skills training to facilitate a move to a more independent setting. 74 Avenue A specializes in offering culturally competent services to Chinese and Korean residents in their primary language.
Sabra Goldman House is a beautifully renovated building located in Queens Village. It provides 24 hour staffing on site and private rooms for 51 residents. This OMH-Licensed CR-SRO provides residents with the support needed on an ongoing basis to live successfully in the community, while also providing skills training to facilitate a move to a more independent setting.
